Collapse is a collaborative project curated by Anaïs Janze Natera featuring the sonic artwork of artist and composer Neugeborene Nachtmusik that examines the psychological effects of the current environmental crisis and positions it as a hyper-object. Hyper-objects are conceptual facts so large and complex, that its scope and brutality cannot be properly comprehended by the human mind.

Using dystopian ambient soundscapes superimposed with dark post-industrial elements, Neugeborene Nachtmusik creates an immersive experience about living through the age of the Sixth Mass Extinction. The engulfing qualities of the sonic piece mirror the overwhelming feeling that individuals experience when confronted with the magnitude of destruction caused by global warming. Working with healing sound frequencies, Collapse serves as an invitation to participants to reflect and process their own feelings of anxiety, despair or grief.

Having been devastated by a fire over half a century ago, the ruin of the Caledonia Road Church provides a space for contemplation. Collapse is part of the ongoing programme of temporary exhibitions and events that WAVEparticle has facilitated as part of the award-winning Laurieston Art Strategy: Open Spaces initiative.

Evening event on the 6th of August 2019, 8-9 PM
